NAN-H-52

Re-opening

Yola, Feb.27, 2017 (NAN) Adamawa House of Assembly on Monday passed a resolution for the reopening of Yola North Metropolitan Council legislative chamber, closed month ago due to leadership tussle.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the legislative chamber has been under lock and key following a stand-off among the Councillors over moves to remove the Speaker, Mallam Buhari Yahuza.

Seven of the 11 Councillors had passed vote of “No Confidence” on the speaker, whom they insisted remained impeached, but the speaker insisted that the law stipulated a minimum of eight Councillors must sign the notice for him to be impeached, as against the seven used for his purported impeachment.

The House of Assembly, in its plenary after the presentation of findings by the House Committee on Public Petitions, unanimously supported the reopening of the hallowed chambers  of the council for the Councillors to resume their normal legislative activities.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Alhaji Kabiru Mijinyawa, who presided over the sitting, directed the Clerk of the House to forward the resolution to the authorities of Yola North Council. (NAN)
