Lagos, Feb. 3, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded a painter, Tope Bada, in prison, after he pleaded guilty to charges of burglary and theft of valuables worth thousands of naira.
The Magistrate, Mr Alexander Komolafe, ordered the remand of Bada in Kirikiri Prisons and adjourned the case till Feb. 8 for facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Ajebe, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 26, at about 9.00.a.m., at House 8, Road 14, Peace Estate, Baruwa, Ipaja, a Lagos suburb.
Ajebe said the 20-year-old accused, of No. 17, Popoola St., Abule-Egba, Lagos, broke into the residence of the complainant, Mrs Oshodi Yetunde, and made away with money and properties valued at N606, 000.
“Bada was accosted by security guards while going with the loot and they demanded to know how he came about the items in his possession.
“The accused confessed to have used a saw to cut the padlock on the door when the complainant had left for work, and stole the valuables,’’ he said.
The offences contravened Sections 285 and 305 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders, while Section 305 provides for two years. (NAN)
