Abuja, Dec. 14, 2016 (NAN) Current World and African Champions, Wellington Jighere, and Nsikakabasi Etim made the list of 23 Scrabble players to participate in the 14th edition of Africa Scrabble Championship in Tema, Ghana.
Anthony Ikolo, the National Scrabble Coach of the Senior Team told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that the team was on their way from Lagos to Ghana by road.
“We are travelling by road to Ghana because we did not get any sponsorship,’’ he said.
Ikolo said that the 23-man contingent comprised 18 players and five officials.
NAN reports that Nigerian athletes are poised for victory in the 14th edition having won 10 editions of the competition.
NAN reports that about 80 to 100 participants are expected from South Africa, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Tanzania and the host nation Ghana.
NAN also reports that the four day-event would be held in Kesdem Hotel, Tema, Ghana, from Dec. 15 to Dec. 18.
Other players include; Ikekeregor Dennis, Ogbakpa Rex, Eta Karo, Oduwole Olatunde, Omosefe Prince, Avwenagha Oshevire, Ben Quickpen.
The rest are; Umebiye Cyril, Saidu Ayorinde, Idahosa Bright, John Curtis Ebomah, Umogbai Andrew, Ogbogu Azubuike, Okoridem Bob, Owokere Victor and Omijeh Osas.
The officials are: Sulaiman Gora, President, Nigeria Scrabble Federation, Maikano Adamu, Secretary General, Anthony Ikolo, National Scrabble Coach of the Senior Team, Babainna Faruq Umar, Technical Director and Chief (Engr.) Olobatoke Aka Board Member. (NAN)
