Dutse, Dec 14, 2016 (NAN) Dr Gambo Gumel, Head of Economics Department, Federal University, Dutse in Jigawa on Wednesday commended President Muhammadu Buhari for being consistent in his efforts at diversifying the economy.
Gumel made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse reacting to the 2017 budget presented to the National Assembly by the President.
He explained that projection of N1.7trn anticipated contribution from non-oil revenue was an indication that the present administration was on the right track towards diversifying economy.
According to him, investment in agriculture and solid minerals is the only guaranteed path out of the current economic recession.
“What the President presented today is nothing but a good budget that gives hope to the country, especially now that we are experiencing recession,” he said.
The University Don said that there was no cause for alarm on the funding of the budget, especially with the huge carry-over of funds from 2016 estimate.
Gumel stated that with what President Muhamnadu presented today, there would be enough money in circulation in 2017 because of the quantum of fund earmarked for capital projects.
He said that if it was well implemented, the budget would provide jobs for a lot of people in the country because where there would be infrastructural development, thereby creating job opportunities. (NAN)
