Damaturu, March 6, 2016 (NAN) The Yobe Committee on Resettlement and Rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) has distributed bags of rice, spaghetti, cooking oil and clothes to victims who relocated to their communities.

Alhaji Musa Jidawa, the Executive Secretary State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), said this in Damaturu on Monday while releasing consignments of the food and non-food items to the local government councils.

Jidawa said the materials were donated by the Nigerian Customs Service to the state government.

“The distribution was in two batches with 10 local government areas benefitting in the first while seven others will benefit in the second batch.

“We have released 6,900 bags of rice, 1,600 jerrycans of vegetable oil, 1,280 cartons of Spaghetti, Macaroni, clothes and soaps to the 10 benefitting local government areas.’’

He listed the 10 councils to include Gulani, Jakusko, Fika, Fune, Yusufari, Nangere, Bursari, Tarmuwa, Machina and Karasuwa.

Jidawa said that the committee categorised the amount of items that would go to each local government according to the number of persons and the scale of damage suffered by the councils.

“The two most severely hit local government councils of Gujba and Gulani received the highest allocations of both food and non-food items,” Jidawa said.

According to him, the seven local councils would receive their share in the next few days.

The secretary said that the distribution covered the entire state and that the committee ensured that no affected community in the 17 local government areas was left out. (NAN)
