Hemp trafficker , 43, remanded in prison pending sentence

Lagos, Jan. 19, 2017 (NAN) After pleading guilty to drug trafficking, 43-year-old Emmanuel Michael, was on Thursday in Lagos remanded in prison pending conviction.

Michael, who entered a plea of guilty at a Federal High Court, is being tried for trafficking in hemp.

At his arraignment, the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, urged the court to remand the accused in prison and give a new for review of facts and sentence.

Justice Mohammed Idris consequently ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison and fixed Jan. 26 for sentence.

Earlier, the prosecution alleged that the accused committed the offence on May 3, 2016.

According to Aernan, the accused was caught with 1.2 kg of Cannabis Sativa (hemp) at Oko Afo on Lagos-Badagry Expressway following a tip-off.

The offence contravened the provisions of Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
