Lafia, June 28, 2017 (NAN) Dr. Cletus Abu-Agbo, Proprietor, Olivet School of Health Technology, Lafia has urged the Federal Government to extend Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) interventions to private health institutions.

.Abu-Agbo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lafia that such intervention would enhance the quality of personnel which would, in turn, boost healthcare delivery across the country.

He said that private schools of health technology had contributed immensely in the training of health personnel especially for Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) and other clinics in the rural areas, and deserved government support.

“Since the essence of establishing TETFUND was to assist tertiary education, such support should be extended to private institutions because their products also serve the country,” he said.

He appealed to the National Assembly to amend the law that established TETFUND to include private institutions as beneficiaries as they were merely complementing government’s efforts.

Abu-Agbo appealed to the Nasarawa State Government to support his college with electricity, water and other facilities to improve the learning environment and prepare students to compete favourably with their counterparts elsewhere.

He said that the institution had initiated measures to curb cases of examination malpractice, rape, cultism and indecent dressing, and urged the students to steer clear of such vices.

Abu-Agbo said that the institution had been accredited to run its medical laboratory courses and was awaiting accreditation from the Community Health Board to commence the training of environmental health officers. (NAN)
