Daura (Katsina State) July 13, 2017 (NAN) Alhaji Yakubu Yusuf, Head of traditional medicine practitioners in Daura Emirate, Katsina State, has advised members of the group against adulteration and unhygienic practices.

Yusuf, who holds the traditional title of Sarkin Maganin Daura, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Daura.

He said some traditional medicine practitioners have been found to be mixing concoctions capable of worsening the health of their clients instead of improving it.

Yusuf said that his office would soon begin an inspection tour of traditional and herbal medicine selling centres to ensure hygiene and protect patrons from the few bad eggs in the system.

“We will also check quackery by ensuring that those practicing without registration are sanctioned,” he said.

The chief also warned the traditional medicine practitioners against claiming cure of what they do not have.

According to him, diseases like HIV and AIDS and Diabetes have no permanent cure, but some of the practitioners are falsely claiming to have cure.

Yusuf noted that some of the practitioners were also mixing traditional medicine with orthodox drugs.

“We will fish out and punish any of our members found to be adulterating traditional medicine with orthodox medicine.’’

He advised the traditional medicine practitioners to standardise their practice by ensuring specific dosage of their drugs to avoid overdose and complications.

NAN recalls that Yusuf was turbaned Sarkin Maganin Daura, which is the Head of traditional medicine practitioners in Daura Emirate by the late Emir of Daura, Alhaji Muhammadu Bashar in July 1999.(NAN)
