Ilorin, July 13 ,2017 (NAN) Pastor Gbenga Agban, the founder of the Disciples Church of Christ, Osere, Ilorin, has advised parents against forcing their children to marry out of wish.
Agbana, who gave the advice in Ilorin on Thursday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that imposing marriage partner on children may lead to broken home.
He said that African parents were fond of selecting marriage partner for their children to the extent of forcing them to go into marriage with spouse they did not have affection for.
“It is very common in Africa, a situation whereby parents, especially mothers trying to interfere and imposing spouses for their daughter or son.
“Imposing marriage partner on your children out of his or her wish is dangerous and could spell doom in their relationship.
“That is why many marriages don’t last as one or both party is forced into the union.
“Parents must learn to advise their children and not to enforce marriage partner on them, ” he said.
The cleric, however, called on parents to pray and advise their children on marital affairs and not to force them to marry someone against their wish. (NAN)
