Lagos, May 17, 2018 (NAN) An engineer, Adefeyisan Adeyemi, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged N3.8 million fraud.

Adeyemi, a resident of No.9 Yaya Lane, Ipaja, a Lagos suburb, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

The posecutor, Insp. Peter Nwangwu, said the accused obtained N3.8 million from the complainant, one Mr Akin Soliyi, for the construction of a network mast.

“The accused collected the money from the complainant under the pretext of constructing a network mast, a representation he knew to be false,” the prosecutor said.

He said that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 12, 2017, at 12.00 p.m. at Iba area of Lagos.

“Adeyemi did conspire with others now at large, collected the money from the complainant, and he refused to construct the mast and absconded with the money to an unknown place.

“All efforts by the complainant for the accused to refund the money proved abortive,’’ Nwangwu said.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Section 287 provides a three-year jail term for offenders.

Chief Magistrate Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N750, 000 with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case until July 16, for mention. (NAN)
