Lagos, Dec. 20, 2016 (NAN) The Eko Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EKEDC), has expressed its readiness to prosecute any staff that involves in electricity bills related fraud.

Mr Oladele Amoda, the EKEDC’s Managing Director, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday.

Amoda said the company’s decision was sequel to frequent complaints being received from members of the public about some unscrupulous staff conniving with customers to short-change the company.

He advised such staff to desist from all forms of fraudulent activities and to see themselves as stakeholders who were out to maintain high level of integrity.

The managing director said that the company had recently sacked some of its staff, who defrauded the company in connivance with customers.

According to him, some of the affected staffers have been handed over to the police for investigation and possible prosecution.
“The affected staffers were laid off following the report of an Investigation Committee that found them culpable of fraudulent offences, and confirmed by a Disciplinary Committee.
“The staffers were relieved of their duties after they were found guilty of various offences which range from conniving with customers to defraud the company, illegal meter installation and signature forgery.
“ My advice to staff is to shun criminal activities which can bring the company’s revenue down,’’ he said.
Amoda appealed to customers to stop conniving with any company staff to commit fraud but should rather report any staff demanding for cash to the company.
