Benin, Nov. 28, 2017 (NAN) The Edo Government will ensure a proper camping for players and officials of Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin in the 2017/2018 season, the state’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, says.
Shaibu said on Tuesday in Benin, when he visited the players’ camp, that this was why government had been upgrading the team’s camp ground in Benin.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state government has commenced the upgrade of the team’s camp ground.
Shaibu added that Gov. Godwin Obaseki has directed that preparations should start early and all modalities put in place to ensure that the team gives it best next season.
NAN reports that Bendel Insurance FC had campaigned in the Nigeria National League (NNL) in the 2016/2017 season.
“The governor’s motive is to see Insurance FC gain qualification to the elite Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). You know that last season was very tough, and we didn’t start the firing on time.
“But this season, Mr Governor wants us to start proper preparations on time, because when we prepare well, we can achieve our results.
“Last season, we discovered that it was only when you have matches you come to camp. We are expecting you in camp before every game, instead of coming from home and individual camping.
“We want you all in the same spirit and concentration, take that to the pitch and and play as a team,” he said.
Shaibu said the governor was determined that Insurance FC gained promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
He said he expected that by next season the team should win all its matches rather than just win at home or draw or lose its away matches.
The deputy governor assured that new players would be brought in to beef up the team as well as ensure independence of the management team.
He also said the state government would ensure that the team gained the necessary confidence and talented players got playing time.(NAN)
