Lagos, Jan. 19, 2017(NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a Keystone bank driver, Clement Agbara, who pleaded guilty to absconding with the bank’s car.
Magistrate T. Akanni remanded Agbara in prison custody, and adjourned the case till Friday for review of facts and sentencing.
Agbara, a resident of Agidigbin, Ikeja, was arraigned on a count charge of stealing.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, the accused stole the Toyota Corolla on Dec. 22, 2016, on Iju Road, Agege, Lagos, and took it to Ondo State.
Ogu said that the driver was authorised to take the car to the company’s mechanic for servicing but he bolted away.
“He converted the car to his own without the consent of his employer.
“All efforts made to find the accused proved unsuccessful as he switched off his phone,” he said.
The prosecutor said that when the accused could not be found, his guarantor was arrested.
“It was through the guarantor that the accused who absconded with the car to Ondo State was arrested,” he said.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be jailed for three years if found guilty, according to the provisions of the section. (NAN)
