Abuja, Jan. 17, 2017 (NAN) A Grade 1 Area Court, Karmo, Abuja, on Tuesday, admitted a 27-year-old furniture maker, Stephen Joseph, to bail in the sum of N50,000 for alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The Presiding Officer, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, ordered the defendant to produce a surety in like sum.

Sadiq said that the surety must be a Grade Level 3 officer in the Federal Civil Service and adjourned the case to Feb. 20, for hearing.

The defendant who resides at Suleja, Kaduna Road, Niger State, was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court that Nelson Ozoh, an engineer of 3rd Avenue Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station on Jan. 6.

The complainant said on Nov. 16, 2016, he entrusted the sum of N140, 000 with the defendant to purchase some items including one cover glass, four boards, five small doors, one big door and keys for the partitioning of his office in Gwarimpa.

The prosecutor said after receiving the money, the defendant installed only boards, abandoned the project, moved to an unknown destination and converted the money for his personal use.

Auhioboh said that the offence contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence. (NAN)
