Court discharges 2 men docked for public disturbance

Discharge
Abuja, Aug. 14, 2018 (NAN) A Kado  Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, has  discharged two men, Jacob Ahiu and Paul Tarka’a, charged with disturbance of public peace.

Ahiu and Tarka’a, of Kpans village, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to a count charge of disturbance of public peace and begged for leniency.

The judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado, who discharged them, warned the defendants never to commit such offence again.

“Desist from such acts in future and become better citizens and human beings, consequently the First Information Report is hereby struck out and the defendants discharged.”

Ado, however, stressed that “ this court does not take lightly the issue of violence.”

The prosecutor, Judith Obatomi, had told the court that the defendants were engaged in a fight which breached public peace on Aug. 7.

Obatomi told the court that the defendants had little misunderstanding and in the process they violently stabbed each other with broken bottles.

She said that in the process, people gathered and they were arrested by the police.

Obatomi said the offence contravened Section 183 of the Penal Code Law. (NAN)
