Lagos, Feb. 24, 2017 (NAN) Wavecrest College of Hospitality, Lagos, which trains qualified personnel for the tourism and hospitality industry, on Friday matriculated 54 students at its 15th matriculation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that students’ parents and guardians were at the ceremony held inside the premises of the Monotechnic in Surulere.

Addressing participants at the ceremony, the college’s Provost, Ifeoma Nwabachili, said that the institution over the years had offered courses in hospitality aimed at empowering youths in the society.

Nwabachili said that there was the need for young people to take advantage of the enormous benefits the tourism and hospitality industry offered in the current situation in the country.

She advised the matriculating students to be focused and abide by rules and regulations guiding the college all through their academic year.

“Wavecrest College is all about empowerment and impacting hospitality knowledge in our students as they progress in their chosen field.

“We know that knowledge cannot be improvised; character and integrity cannot be attained without hard work, so we expect nothing less from our new students.

“There is a whole lot to explore in terms of tourism and hospitality as far as this country is concerned and this is the right time for youths to explore the industry,’’ she said.

Also, Nancy Benedict-Jibuaku, the Guest Speaker, congratulated the students for venturing into the field.

Benedict-Jibuaku, who is the Group and Events Account Manager of Fourpoints by Sheraton in Lagos, said that it was high time youths embraced the industry to engage themselves gainfully.

“Many youths are unemployed today not because they are not qualified but because everybody either wants to work in oil companies or banks that are also affected by the present economic situation.

“There is a whole lot the tourism and hospitality sector has to offer and the earlier we realise this the better it is for us as a nation.

“I was one of the pioneering students of this college and I will be forever grateful for the knowledge imparted to me and I hope the new intakes will achieve their dreams,’’ he said.

NAN reports that Wavecrest College is approved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Nigeria.

The college has won the West Africa Tourism and Hospitality Award for the best educational institution in West Africa three times. (NAN)
