Proposal
By Millicent Ifeanyichukwu
Lagos, Dec. 14, 2016 (NAN) Feyisetan Are, Head Coach, Nigeria Para-Powerlifting Federation (NPPF), on Wednesday advised sports federations to submit their 2017 programme proposals to corporate organisations before their annual budgets would be ready.
Are told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that it had become necessary for the federations to be proactive to get sponsors early enough.
“Federations that are affiliated to international bodies must have been informed of activities for next year, and the early notice is to enable them to prepare ahead.
“So, they should have an estimate that is backed up with the programme schedules and approach organisations and individuals so that it could be accommodated in their plans.
“This is a measure of forecast to achieve result which will also curb the issue of poor attendance in international championships as a result of lack of sponsorship,’’ he said.
Are said that corporate bodies usually prepared their budgets based on proposals made available early, and might not accommodate others that were submitted after deliberation by their boards.
He said it was only through the country’s consistent participation in international championships that athletes could get exposure and improve on their performances.
“There are continental competitions and they are very important because they serve as a preparatory ground for major competitions like the Commonwealth Games, Africa Games and Olympic Games.
“It is a forum for the athletes and their technical officials to gain exposure, get acquainted with current rules and know their forms and areas of deficiencies,’’ the coach said.
According to him, some corporate bodies are ready to identify with various sports and contribute to the development of sports in the country if informed early. (NAN)
