Lagos, Aug. 21, 2017(NAN) A 39-year-old clearing agent, Segun Ogundare, who allegedly beat-up an Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Chairmanship aspirant, was on Monday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ogundare, a resident of Oshodi, Lagos, is facing a charge of assault.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 14 at Adekunle St., Oshodi, Lagos.
Awase said the accused beat-up Mr Fatai Ibuowo, of the National Conscience Party (NCP), for daring to campaign on his street.
The prosecutor said the complainant, with some of his party members, embarked on a street-to-street campaign and was attacked by the accused.
“The accused, who belonged to another political party, had warned the complainant not to carry his campaign to his street.

Awase said the offence contravened Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Section 172 prescribes a one- year jail term for offenders.
The accused pleaded not guilty of the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr J.A Adigun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum.
He said the surety should be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
