Cleaner, 20, docked over alleged N250, 000 theft

Lagos, Sept. 27, 2017 (NAN) A 20-year-old cleaner, Abidemi Jabeta, who allegedly burgled school bursary and stole N 250,000 was on Wednesday arraigned in a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The defendant of no fixed address is facing a two-count charge of burglary and theft, offences he denied committing.
The Prosecutor, ASP Richard Odigie, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Aug. 30 at about 1:00a.m., at Jolas Private School, Pike Street, Lagos Island.
He alleged that the accused burgled the school bursary and stole N250, 000.
“The accused who was the school cleaner broke into the bursary room and stole N250,000, school fees of the pupils’ kept in the office,’’ he said.
Odigie said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 287 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 (7) stipulates five years imprisonment, while Section 307 stipulates seven years imprisonment for offenders.
The Magistrate, F.O. Ikobayo granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until Oct. 11 for mention. (NAN)
