Lagos, Dec. 14, 2016(NAN) The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), has appealed to the Federal Government to formulate policies that will make logistics and transport system be the integral components of development.

Alhaji Ibrahim Jibril, the National President of CILT, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos.

According to him, transport is a wheel through which any economy could thrive.

He said that government through its policies could ensure that both logistics and transport sector serve as the grease on which the wheel of the economy flourished.

“Federal government should come up with policies that will allow logistics and transport sector be the component of economy development.

“The CILT currently does not have the level of recognition it should have, by the government at all levels and industry.

“Meanwhile, logistics and transport are integral components of development in every economy,” Jibril said.

The institute president also appealed to the National Assembly to hasten the passage of CILT Bill presented to it by Sen. Gbenga Ashafa, the Chairman Senate Committee on Land Transport.

According him, the Bill when it becomes Law, will help the logistics and transport sector to become components of economy development.

Jibril also reiterated that the country was on downward trend in the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) as the sector served as the parameter through which global businesses efficiency was being measured.

He canvassed for government support for the institute, saying that government should make quality impact on national issues that concerned logistics and transport sector.

He, however, advised the 140 newly inducted members of the institute to keep the flag of the institute flying higher and ensure complete compliance with standards and ethics of the profession. (NAN)
