Rape

Lagos, March 15, 2017(NAN) A 45-year-old artisan, Gabriel Idowu, who allegedly raped his neighbour’s 16-year-old daughter, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused, who resides at 24, Hannan Adeniran St., Alakuko, a Lagos suburb is facing a charge of rape.
The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 28 at 24, Hannan Adeniran St., Alakuko, a Lagos.
Ogu said the accused called the girl to his room under the pretext of sending her on an errand but shut the door and raped her.
“She was rescued by some neighbours who heard her scream. The accused was arrested and handed over to the police,’’ he said.
The offence contravened Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however pleaded not guilty to the charge and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the accused’s case file be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
Akanni adjourned the case to April 3 for DPP’s advice. (NAN)
