Applicant in court for allegedly impersonating as DSS officer

Abuja, Feb. 15, 2017 (NAN) An Applicant, Ikechukwu George, 33, was on Wednesday arraigned in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged impersonation, criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The defendant is standing trial on a three-count charge, bordering on impersonating as an officer of Directorate of State Service (DSS).

George, of Mararaba, Nasarawa State, denied committing the offences.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court that one Kefas Markus, of 3rd Avenue, Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station on Feb. 10.

Auhioboh said that the complainant alleged that on Jan. 12, the defendant presented himself as a DSS officer, claiming to be what he was not.

The prosecutor said that the defendant dishonestly collected N37, 000 with the pretence to secure a job in DSS for him, while no such recruitment was going on.

Auhioboh said that the offences contravened Sections 132, 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The counsel to the defendant, Cynthia Nnamdi, applied for his bail, and assured the court that the defendant would not jump bail.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 and one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till March 15. (NAN)
