Applicant bags 4 months imprisonment for stealing cell phone

Abuja, March 13, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced 20-year-old applicant, Suleiman Mohammed, to four months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, said that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others.
He also ordered the convict to pay N5, 000 to the nominal complainant as compensation, failure to do so, will spend two months in prison..
Mohammed, who resides at Madala village, Abuja, was convicted on a count charge of theft.
The convict, pleaded guilty to the offence, and urged the court to temper justice with mercy.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannan Dalhatu, had told the court that one Emmanuel Amadi, of Karmo village reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station, on March 9.
He said that on the same date, the convict entered the complaint’s room and stole one Techno cell phone, valued at N5,000, but was arrested..
During police investigation, he confessed to the crime, but claimed that he lost the cell phone when he was being chased after, all efforts to recover the phone proved abortive.
The offences contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code.
