Butchers
Yola, May 18, 2017 (NAN) Gov. Mohammed Bindow of Adamawa on Thursday urged butchers in the state to adopt `value chain mechanism’ in distributing processed meat from Adamawa to other parts of Nigeria.
Bindow gave the advice when members of the newly elected executive council of the Butchers Union of Nigeria (BUN), Adamawa chapter, visited him at Government House Yola.
He stressed the need for the union to invest more in the value chain production of meat for optimum benefits.
He assured that his administration was determined to assist the union to achieve such ventures.
He urged the union to uphold global best practices in the meat processing industry.
The governor also pledged that his government would look into the demands made by the union and take decision on critical areas of intervention.
Bindow, who congratulated the state executive of BUN for their victory at the poll, donated a brand new Toyota Siena vehicle for the union.
The Commissioner for Live Stock Production, Alhaji Isa Ibrahim, said the ministry was discussing with the Bank of Infrastructure to upgrade the abattoir in Yola to world standard.
He expressed regret that the contractors’ awared the contract by the previous administration in the state to upgrade the abattoir delayed the project.
He said that his ministry had forwarded a memo to the office of the governor for the revocation of the contract.
The newly elected chairman of the union, Mr Usman Danjuma, expressed concern at the current state of the abattoir and described it as `lamentable.’
Danjuma criticized the government for not supporting the union in its bid to ensure that meat slaughtered and transported from Yola abattoir are hygienic (NAN)
