Abakaliki, Jan. 25, 2017 (NAN) The Joint National Association for Persons with Disabilities (JNAPD), Ebonyi chapter, on Wednesday, urged employers of labour to always accommodate the physically challenged persons in their firms.
Mr Parkins Uzor, Technical Assistant to Governor David Umahi, on People with Disabilities and Information Communication Technology, said that integrating them in schemes would improve their standard of living and cushion the effects of their conditions.
Uzor who is visually impaired, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki and that such approach will enable them not to feel rejected in the society.
“There’s ability in disability if given the opportunity and should not be looked down upon, since their conditions were not as a result of their sins or faults.
“People with disabilities should not be isolated, but should be carried along; it is not their making and it does not take 10 minutes for one to become physically challenged,”he said.
He called on both government and non- government organisations, to treat such persons fairly, engage them meaningful to become useful to themselves and the society at large.
He also called on other physically challenged, who are shying away from identifying with the public, to associate, so that their aims in life will be attained.
“We will organise a sensitisation workshop to enlighten and orientate these persons, so that they can associate with the public,” he said.
He commended the governor for his assistance towards the people with disabilities, widows, indigents persons in the state. (NAN)
