Imprisonment
Abuja, Jan. 25, 2017 (NAN) A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 38-year-old driver, Wasiu Aremu to five months in prison for criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The judge, Alhaji Mohammed Ado, however gave Aremu an option to pay N4, 000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.
Aremu, who resides in Mpape, Abuja, was convicted on the two-count charge levelled against him.
He prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, saying it was the devil that pushed him into committing the crime.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Judith Obatomi, had told the court that one Dani Ejagi of Mabushi, Abuja, reported the matter at Mabushi Police Station on Jan. 7.
Obatomi said that in Dec. 18, 2016 the complainant gave his Nissan car to the convict for commercial use with agreement to balance him (owner) N10, 000 weekly.
She said the convict paid the money only on one occasion and disappeared with the car.
The prosecutor said the complainant later saw his car abandoned on Jabi expressway with four of the tyres removed.
She said that during police investigation Aremu confessed that he sold the car.
The prosecutor said the offence is punishable under Section 312 and 322 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
