Police arraign woman, 53, over alleged public fighting, stealing

Ile-Ife (Osun), Jan. 20, 2017 (NAN) A 53-year-old woman, Oluremi Akorede, was on Friday arraigned over alleged public fighting and stealing.
She appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence at Oja-tuntun, Ile-Ife on Jan. 6 at about 1:55 p.m.
Osanyintuyi told the court that the accused assaulted one Fausat Olatunji by biting her on her left hand and inflicted injury on her finger.
He said that the accused also intentionally damaged the victim’s properties valued at N317, 750.
The prosecutor said the damaged items included one Samsung Galaxy, one Techno T349, two chains, one recommended reading glass, one calculator and one blouse.
He said that the accused also stole N200, 000 cash.
According to him, the offences were contrary to and punishable under Sections 355, 390 (9) and 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Adewale Adegbami, applied for bail on behalf of the accused in liberal terms, pledging that the accused would not jump bail as substantial sureties would be provided.
Magistrate Iyabo Salami granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.
Salami directed that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused, while both must be gainfully employed with original identity cards and photocopies of their employment letters.
She adjourned the case to Feb 9 for hearing. (NAN)
