Lagos, Jan. 20, 2017 (NAN) Segun Akinlotan, the new Liaison Officer, Ministry of Youth and Sports in National Stadium, Lagos, says he needs the support of staff and users of the complex to execute his job effectively.
Akinlotan told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that his office was open to advice and ideas from persons who were passionate about improvement of the stadium.
“I am ready to work, supervise activities but I will appreciate the cooperation of the staffers and sports persons that make use of the stadium complex because nobody knows it all.
“Basically, what I require from everyone who identifies with me and wants to see me deliver is prayers to complement the task ahead in this stadium,’’ he said.
He said that he has a mandate to ensure a clean environment for the comfort of users, adequate security of government’s property in the stadium complex.
“The routine environmental sanitation observed every Thursday continues and it is compulsory for shop owners because total cleanliness is one of my mandates, defaulters will be penalised.
“Although the stadium is a public edifice, but persons or groups who have the privilege of using the property must handle it with utmost care,’’ Akinlotan said.
The liaison officer categorically warned users that were in the habit of violating training schedules to desist from it, adding that the stadium was meant for sports activities and should be respected.
According to him, security guards will be positioned at various designated places within the complex to apprehend defaulter who would be handed over to the police in the stadium.
“The users are aware of training schedules and the penalty attached, such is still obtainable, so, I will advise they respect the directive for even development,’’ he added.
Akinlotan, who was in charge of Institutional and Grassroots Sports at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, promised to bring his years of experience to bear in his new appointment.
“I have put in 28 years in service, as secretary of basketball, handball, volleyball, special sports, wrestling, headed zonal offices and served twice in the headquarters and now back to Lagos as Deputy Director.
“I am part and parcel of sports and the federations I served under have their offices in Lagos, so I understand the situation and I will do my best,’’ he said.
