Taraba LG poll: Chairmanship candidate vows to tackle drug abuse

Jalingo, Jan. 20, 2017 (NAN ) Alhaji Abdul-Nasir Bobboji, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for Jalingo council area in Taraba has vowed to tackle drug abuse among youths if elected in the Feb.11 council polls.
Bobboji told newsmen in Jalingo that the rate of drug abuse among youths in the area had become a matter of concern that needed an urgent intervention.
He pledged to liaise with relevant government agencies to establish a rehabilitation centre, which would help drug addicts and raise awareness campaign against drug abuse.
“ The level of abuse of illicit drugs among youths in Jalingo is alarming, and I am telling you that, I will do everything within my capacity to curb this menace.
“ More worrisome is that the illegal act is taking a new dimension as young girls are now deeply involved in it.
“ The youths are the engine of development in every society and that is why we cannot fold our arms and see them trailing the path of self-destruction.
“ Within our available resources, if elected, I will ensure I liaise with all relevant agencies to establish a rehabilitation centre, which will assist drug addicts to become useful members of the society,’’ he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bobboji was the former caretaker chairman of the council for seven months.

He promised to consolidate on the youth empowerment programmes he started during his caretaker period, especially, the Information Communication Technology.
He said that when the youths were engaged in skills’ acquisition training, they became more productive to their immediate environment and the society at large.(NAN )
