Cricket stakeholders mourn Enahoro

Lagos, Jan. 20, 2017 (NAN) Some cricket stakeholders have described the death of Chris Enahoro, a former Chairman of Nigeria and West Africa Cricket Association as a great loss.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Enahoro died in the early hours of Wednesday after a brief illness in his Surulere, Lagos residence.

The former captain of the Nigeria cricket team was well respected for his venture into various sports in the country.

Enahoro, a former school athlete in the 1950s and 1960’s, held the West Africa high jump record for years.

Stakeholders who spoke to NAN said the deceased contributed immensely to the development of the sport in Nigeria and Africa at large.

Emeka Oyeama, President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), said the death of Enahoro came as a shock to him, adding that he would be greatly missed by all.

“This is a very sad loss for the cricket community in the country; he played a great role in the development of cricket.

“The history of cricket in Nigeria cannot be written without Enahoro’s name. We pray that God will grant his family the fortitude to bear his demise,’’ Oyeama said.

Also, Olisa Egwuatu, Technical Director of NCF, told NAN that Enahoro was a cricket icon in the country.

Egwuatu said that the deceased’s knowledge of the sport was immeasurable and should be emulated by others.

“Enahoro was a student of the game, his passion and commitment to the sport cannot be compared to anything,’’ he said.

Tonye Timinade, Head Coach of the Rivers Cricket Association, described Enahoro as a pillar the sport in all ramifications.

Timinade said that his legacy and contribution to the game would forever remain in the heart of many.
