Ado-Ekiti, Jan.18, 2017, (NAN) An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court on Wednesday ordered the remand of one Jimoh Ganiyu in police custody for failing to pay the N3, 000 monthly allowance for his children’s upkeep as ordered by the court.

The court had dissolved the marriage between Folasade and Jimoh Ganiyu on ‎Jan.10, 2011, and ordered Jimoh to payN3, 000 as monthly upkeep for his two children.

The petitioner, Olatunde Folasade, 35, told the court that the respondent had failed to ‎comply with the court’s order.

“Jimoh has refused to pay any money since the court’s judgment in 2011 and I find it difficult to cater for the children,’’ she said.

The respondent, Jimoh, 40, told the court that he did not pay the money because he had resolved the problem he had with his estranged wife after the court’s judgment.

He urged the court to allow him start the payment  from Jan.31.

The President of the court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, however, rejected the respondent’s appeal.

She ordered that the respondent should be remanded in police custody till he was able to pay N10, 000 to the petitioner.

“The respondent should continue to pay N10, 000 to the petitioner on a monthly basis until he is able to clear the accumulated debt of N216, 000 he  owned since 2011,’’ she said.

Akomodele adjourned the case till March 8 for report of compliance with the court’s order. (NAN)
