Police arraign unemployed man over alleged theft of cable wires worth N250,000

Lagos, Jan. 11, 2017 (NAN) A 27- year-old man, Igbam Peter on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing cable wires belonging to Dangote Group of Companies.

The accused is standing trial for stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.

Peter, who lives around Cele area of Lagos, is accused of stealing Amour cable wires worth N250, 000.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Ishaku Babaji, told the court that the accused committed the offence at the premises of Dangote Group of Companies at No. 3, Oba-Akran Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos at about 7.50 a.m. on Dec. 17, 2016.

Babaji said that the accused, who had earlier worked for the company came to look for job but was told by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) that there was no vacancy.

He said that the CSO thought that the accused had left the company premises until the following morning when Peter was caught by security guards with the stolen items.

“The accused was arrested and after interrogation, he confessed to have cut the wires with a cutlass, saying he wanted to sell and use the money for his personal use,” Babaji said.

The offences contravened Sections 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.‎

The Magistrate, Mr J.A. Adegun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.

Adegun said that the sureties must be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Adegun adjourned the case to Jan. 16 for trial. (NAN)
