Lagos, Dec. 28, 2016 (NAN) Mr Aba Onoghen, Vice President, Nigeria Drummers Association, has urged drummers to use indigenous drums to give prominence and promote the country’s culture.

Onoghen made the plea in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos.

He said though the use of foreign drums would promote cultural exchange programmes, Nigerian drums should be given prominence.

According to him, Nigerian drums can gradually go into extinction like other traditional musical instruments, if not well utilised.

“We need to promote the use of our drums; we can make use of other countries’ drums, but ours should be used during international tours.

“Our drums can also be manipulated to play other countries’ drums, and we can accommodate other drums to give room for cultural exchange programmes,” he said.

Onoghen also urged drummers to desist from taking up drumming jobs for meagre amounts in view of the nation’s economic situation.

“The beauty of a song is not known without good drumming beats.

“Don’t be tempted to take up jobs just for little amount of money, have a price tag and brand yourselves,” he admonished them. (NAN)
