Ile-Ife (Osun), Dec. 23, 2016 (NAN) A 23-year-old man, Bayo Ozokuah, was on Monday sentenced to five years imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle.
Ozokuah was jailed by an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court after he was found guilty of a count charge preferred against him.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Abdullahi, told court that Ozokuah committed the offence on April 4, 2016 around 2 p.m. at Olurin Street in Ile-Ife.
Abdullahi had alleged that the accused stole the motorbike with engine no: SDHI52FMI3K3011061 and chassis no: BLOCBIHIE2J309669.
He explained that the accused also stole a handset, a pair of shoes and five pairs of clothes with total valued of N144, 000, belonging to one Simeon Bassey and his colleague Emmanuel Bassey.
He said the offence was contrary to Section 383 of the Criminal Code and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 34, Laws of Osun State, 2003.
The prosecutor presented the fact of the case and it was admitted by the accused.
In his ruling, Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode said that stealing of motorbikes was rampant across the society and that sinner would go unpunished.
Ijiyode sentenced the accused to five years imprisonment without an option of fine, saying that the sentence would serve as deterrent to other criminals in society. (NAN)
