Zamfara Govt. offers N32m to families attacked by cattle rustlers

Shinkafi (Zamfara), Dec. 23, 2016 (NAN) Zamfara State Government has presented over N32 million to 57 families of those killed by cattle rustlers in Shinkafi Local Government area of the state.

Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji, Chairman, Zamfara State Damage Impact Assessment and Relief Committee, made the disclosure in Shakafi on Friday while presenting the money to the families.

Rikiji, who is also the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, said the gesture was to assist families of those killed and victims injured in the attacks.

He said that the committee was set up by government to assess damages in affected communities and offer assistance to victims.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that seven local government areas of the state had come under bandits attacks during the year.

They include Anka, Bungudu, Birnin-Magaji, Maru, Maradun, Shinkafi and Zurmi.

Rikiji said that each of the 57 families would be given N250, 000 while injured persons and those who lost property would receive cash grant of N100,000 each.

He disclosed that the committee had a week ago distributed food items and clothing materials to the families.

In his remark, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi appealed to the victims to utilise the food and money given to them judiciously.

He urged them to be calm, assuring that the government was taking serious measures to address the security challenges in the state.

The Emir of Shinkafi, Alhaji Muhammad Makwashe, commended the state government for the “timely” gesture and urged the people to pray for peace and stability in the state and Nigeria at large.

NAN recalls that over 1,000 armed bandits in Zurmi Local Governmnt Area, on Sunday surrendered their arms to the state government as part of a peace deal. (NAN)
