Dutse, Dec. 15, 2016 (NAN) The Institute of Human Virology (IHV) on Thursday said it has distributed no fewer than 97,200 treated mosquito nets to primary, junior and secondary schools students in Jigawa.

The institute’s Programme Officer in the state, Mr Bello Ahmad, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview in Dutse.

Ahmad explained that 3,600 nets were distributed to students in each of the 27 local government areas of the state.

He explained that the benefitting students were from the selected four primary schools, two junior and senior secondary schools across the state.

“We decided to distribute the nets in schools because we want the students to be our change agents.

“This is because, if they go home, they will tell their parents that they have been using mosquito treated nets in school and that will encourage the parents or guardians.

“Also, if they have brothers or sisters, they will also join them to sleep under the treated nets.

“So, you see, they are already changing from sleeping without nets to sleeping under the treated nets,” he explained.

The officer pointed out that the gesture was also aimed at curtailing the spread of malaria among school children in the state.

Ahmad, therefore, urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the nets. (NAN)
