Abuja, Dec. 5, 2016 (NAN) Prof. Oshita Oshita, the Director General (DG) of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), on Monday, commended the Federal Government for releasing fund for the infrastructure for Peace (I4P) projects.
Oshita made the commendation in a statement signed by Dr Joseph Ochogwu, the Project Coordinator and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Abuja.
He said a total of 60 stakeholders from both government and non-government organisations will benefit from the project.
“Both government and non-government organisations will benefit from the phase of the project that will provide the pivot towards the sensitisation and enlightenment of all Nigerians in every nook and cranny,’’ he said.
Osita said that the project would strengthen peace infrastructure at the federal, state and local government levels for easy mitigation of strained relations amongst our communities.
“To also enhance the promotion of peace and help douse unhealthy tensions that may threaten national unity,’’ he added.
Oshita noted that the support by the government, demonstrates President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to a more peaceful and united Nigeria.
He however extended appreciation to members of the National Assembly for their support towards achieving a stable democracy and sustenance of even socio-economic development.
Oshita however noted that the appropriated sum of N25 million was grossly inadequate for country-wide activities on Nigeria’s “I4P”.
He added that the management of the Institute would ensure discretion in the utilisation of the fund and hoped for the provision of more funds in the subsequent phases of the project.
According to the him, a programme for the implementation of components of the “I4P” project in the 2016 appropriations will commence with the “I4P” North East Stakeholders’.
“The second batch of the training for South-South geo-political zone would take place in Calabar, Cross River State, also of December this year.’’ (NAN)
