By Boboye Moronke
Lagos, Nov. 24, 2016 (NAN) An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, granted N500, 000 bail to a generator mechanic, Onyema Okom, who was alleged to have sexually assaulted a two-year-old girl in Lagos.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, ruled that Okom should provide two sureties as part of the bail condition, adding that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The accused, who resides at 17, Seriki St., Okokomaiko, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a charge of defilement.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp Simeon Inuoha, told the court that the offence was committed on Nov. 1 at the residence of the accused.
Inuoha said that the victim’s mother left the girl in the care of the accused and went to the market to get some food stuff.
“When she got back, she met her daughter crying and there was blood stain all over her body, she checked her vagina and discovered that she was still bleeding from there,’’ he said.
The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and the court adjourned the case to Jan. 30, 2017 for mention. (NAN)
