Lagos, Aug. 16, 2018 (NAN) A 40-year-old man, Kunle Solomon, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a woman of N1.2 million under the pretext of selling a landed property to her.
Solomon, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, said that Solomon committed the offences in November 2017, at No. 36, Ifeloju St., Old Oko-Oba, Agege area of Lagos.
He said that the accused obtained N1.2 million from the complainant, Miss Britto Aanuoluwapo, under the pretext of selling a plot of land to her.
Eruada said that the accused intentionally tricked the complainant and failed to refund the money.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 314 prescribes 15 years jail term for obtaining money under false pretences.
The accused denied committing the offences, and the Magistrate, Mrs M.I. Dan-Oni, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Dan-Oni adjourned the case until Sept. 6. (NAN)
