Mechanic in court for alleged car theft

Ikeja, May 28, 2018(NAN) The Police on Monday arraigned a 40 -year-old auto mechanic, Ibrahim Okunade, in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing a car valued at N400,000, belonging to one Olusola Akintunde.
Okunade, a resident of Ipaja area of Lagos, is being tried for stealing, an offence he denied committing.
The prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in April 2015 at Ipaja, Lagos.
Ayorinde said that the complainant gave his Nissan Sony car to the defendant for repairs, but the defendant absconded with the car.
“ Efforts made by the complainant to retrieve his car proved unsuccessful as the defendant refused to pick his calls.
“He was later arrested after three years of absconding with the car, but could not give reasons for his action.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes three years jail term for stealing.
The Magistrate Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000,with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until July 2 for mention. (NAN)
