Abuja, May 27, 2018 (NAN) Box office animation movies recorded high viewings by children in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the cinema visits were part of fun activities for the 2018 Children’s Day celebration on Sunday.

Children’s Day is a day recognised to celebrate children, commonly celebrated annually in Nigeria on May 27.

NAN reports that in Genesis Cinemas, Novare Mall and Ceddi Plaza, and Silverbird Cinema Jabi, parents rushed to purchase animation movies tickets for their children.

Sherlock Gnomes and Peter Rabbit were top of the movie lineups, with ticket prices between two thousand naira to three thousand naira.

In some cinemas, the movie tickets included free popcorn, candies, drinks and face painting for the children.

Mr Isaiah Balogun, a cashier at the ticket point in one of the cinemas, said that the animation movies were almost sold out as they were the ready choice for parents among the other movie lineups.

Speaking with NAN on the choice of animation movies, some parents explained that they wanted their children to enjoy the celebrations while watching educative cinema content.

Mr Ayobami Shogunle, a father of two said that he chose the animations because they were family friendly.

“It’s Children’s Day and they deserve to be happy. I want them to have the cinema experience but watch a family friendly film that I will not get bored watching with them,” he said.

Similarly, Mrs Veronica Anyanwu, a mother of three, said that she wanted her children to have a fun experience with animations that will keep their attention in the cinema.

“Children love animations and they deserve treats from time to time. It’s better to buy tickets for animation movies that will love and understand than serious adult movies,” She said.

NAN reports that the malls were also flooded with children who played arcade games and shopped with their parents in toy stores. (NAN)
