Tafawa Balewa (Bauchi State), May 21, 2018 (NAN) A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Sun of Hope Foundation, says it sponsored the repair of 200 women suffering from Vesico Vaginal fistula (VVF) across the country.
Mrs Gimbiya Dogara, the Founder of the foundation and wife of the Speaker of House of Representatives, disclosed this at the launch of distribution of farm inputs to women and youth farmers in Tafawa Balewa, Bauchi State.
Represented by the Project Coordinator of the NGO, Sarah Kefas, Dogara said the foundation intervened on maternal health and VVF repairs across the country “to save the lives of women and to protect women suffering from the condition.
“We sponsored the repair of 200 VVF sufferers in Ningi; Bauchi State, Gambo Sawaba Hospital in Zaria, and Uyo in Akwa Ibom.
“The foundation is also making arrangements to sponsor the repair of sufferers at Abakaliki VVF Centre in Ebonyi.”
Dogara said the NGO donated medical equipment and consumables at Ningi VVF Centre in Bauchi State, as well as VVV centres in Abakaliki in Ebonyi and Zaria in Kaduna State.
She announced that the organisation conducted free medical outreach in the three council areas
for pregnant women and children, adding that “we also provided free medical services during annual Leem Zaar festival in Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa to reach out to every community.”
She added that farm inputs worth millions of Naira were distributed to more than 7,000 youth and women in Tafawa Balewa, Bogoro and Dass local government areas of Bauchi State.
“The distribution was a continuation of what we did last year but we wanted to make sure that those who benefitted last year did not benefit this year.
“We want everybody to benefit as we believe that the harvest of those that benefitted last year had increased.”
The beneficiaries included 3,500 youths and 3,500 women from the three local government areas.
“The gesture was to help fight poverty and hunger in rural areas,” she said. (NAN)
