Port Harcourt, May 21, 2018 (NAN) Mr Ayoola Lawal, Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) Scandinavia chapter, has commended the Senate for allocating one percent of the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) to basic healthcare in the country.
Lawal told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the telephone from Gothenburg, Sweden on Monday that the passage of the 2018 appropriation bill was a welcome development.
He also praised the Senate for passing the repeal and re-enactment of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA).
Lawal, an aspirant for the Lagos State House of Assembly for Ifako/Ijaiye Constituency 1, said the move by the upper chamber of the National Assembly was important for the economic foundation and public healthcare of Nigerians.
“The passing of CAMA Act and the appropriation of one per cent of CRF for public healthcare are grand milestones ever achieved by the Nigerian Senate in my perspective.
“The Sen. Bukola Saraki-led 8th National Assembly has just laid the basic foundation for a serious and genuine economic institution for Nigeria.
“If well implemented, huge are the implications for the health sector and the Nigerian economy.
Lawal said the passage of the CAMA Act would enable Nigeria´s business environment to genuinely join the league of competitive business environments on the globe.
The chairman said: “Most of the bottlenecks, especially the analogue business registration and outdated regulatory provisions will become things of the past.
“Partnering, starting businesses and running a business will now become easy from any part of the globe.’’
Lawal added that the law would contribute to the inflow of foreign direct investment into Nigerian economy daily.
“The appropriation of one per cent of CRF for basic healthcare depicts that quite a number of average Nigerians will now be having access to free basic healthcare and less death due to health issues.
“With the above developments and constant demand for transparency and good governance, Nigeria will one day become the nation of our dream once again,’’ Lawal said.
Meanwhile, the Senate and the House of Representatives have yet to meet to harmonise the budget before President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent. (NAN)
