Warri (Delta), May 17, 2018 (NAN) Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta has advised youths in Warri and environs to change their mindset about life and embrace hard work, discipline and patriotism which are necessary for societal progress.
Okowa gave the advice in Warri on Thursday at the opening of the 1st Warri Economic Summit with the theme, “Engaging Stakeholders for a Rising Warri.”
The governor said that the concept of “rising Warri” should begin with the youths.
He said that the youth must be ready to offer themselves for peaceful partnership that would enable government to partner with them.
Okowa urged them to portray Warri to the world in good light, noting however that there was no city in the world where there was no crime.
“For Warri to rise again there has to be partnership. The youths, leaders and everybody must be ready to partner with investors.
“I hope when the dredging of the Escravos bar commences, we will allow it to succeed. On our part as a state government is that whatsoever is required to make it function, we will do.
“Warri is the economic hub of Delta and many a times, we give a bad name to Warri. There is no city in the world that is totally peaceful.
“The time for Warri restoration is now and no doubt, this summit is a veritable platform to create awareness of the existing peace and progress of our communities,” he said.
Okowa urged the youth and the communities to promote peace, noting that sustainable development would be impossible in an atmosphere of rancour.
He pleaded with the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and other oil companies that had left the once bubbling oil city of Warri to return with their full complements.
“It is my sincere hope that the outcome of this summit will be put to proper use,” he said.
The programme is organised by the Warri South Local Government in collaboration with the Warri Economic Summit Group. (NAN)
