Kano, May 15, 2018 (NAN) A Kano-based businessman, Alhaji Shitu Sani-Marshal, has advised the Federal Government to ban importation of all goods being produced in the country.
Sani-Marshal gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday.
He said that the ban was necessary in order to encourage local industries to remain in business.
“There is need for the Federal Government to ban importation of all products being manufactured or produced in the country in the interest of our local producers, ‘’ he said.
Sani-Marshal, who is also the Chairman, Kano State Concerned Youth Forum, said that the Federal Government should take the bold step in order to save local industries from collapse.
According to him, the measure would also go a long way in providing jobs for unemployed persons in the country.
“How can we survive as a nation when goods produced in the country are still being imported?
“We need to think over this issue before the problem degenerated into a serious economic crisis, ‘’ Sani-Marshal said.
“During the recent visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the United States of America, six companies indicated interest to invest in Nigeria.
“Some of the companies, if not all, should be sited in the North west, especially in Kano and Jigawa states, in view of the high rate of unemployment in the two states.
“Kano has the highest number of unemployed youths. Bringing some of the companies here will provide job opportunities for the people of the state, ‘’ he said.
The businessman commended the Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar, for successfully hosting President Muhammadu Buhari, when he paid an official visit to the state.
He also commended the governor for executing various developmental projects within the last three years in office.
Sani-,Marshal said that the governor also deserved commendation for his commitment to the fight against corruption in the state. (NAN)
