Ikeja, March 14, 2018 (NAN) A 27-year-old, aluminum fabricator, Olatunbosu Adebola, who absconded with his customer’s N250,000, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Adebola, who resides at Olorunsogo area of Ibadan in Oyo State, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP. Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused committed the offences in December, 2017 at Aguda in Ogba area of Lagos.

Ayorinde said that the accused obtained N250, 000 from the complainant, Mr Popoola Olawale, with the pretext of supplying him some aluminum windows; a representation he knew was false.

“Immediately the accused got the money he refused to supply the aluminum windows.

“Efforts made by the complainant to retrieve his money or get the aluminium windows were unsuccessful as the accused had disappeared into thin air.

“When the complainant got to his house, he was told that the accused had relocated to unknown destination and also he refused to pick the complainant’s calls.

“He was later arrested and handed over to the police,” Ayorinde said.

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 314 prescribes 15 years jail term for obtaining money under false pretences.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs B.O Osunsanya, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanya said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until April 12 for mention. (NAN)
