Lagos, Jan. 18, 2018 (NAN) An NGO, Health Emergency Initiative (HEI), rendering emergency medical services, has lauded the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), a professional services firm, for supporting its course in saving the lives of victims of road crashes.

Dr Ndi Onuekwusi, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of HEI, spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.

Onuekwusi said that his organisation was one of the beneficiaries of the N5 million donated to five Charity Homes by PwC.

NAN reports that other beneficiaries charity organisations are Optimal Children’s Home Orphanage, Destiny Trust Children’s Foundation, Down Syndrome Foundation of Nigeria and Cerebral Palsy Centre.

Onuekwusi said that the organisation funded five charity homes with N1 million each to provide succour to indigent and vulnerable people in the society through the NGOs.

He said that the money would go a long way in stabilising the road accident victims brought by Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) to hospitals in the state.

“Our objective is to promote quick, initial and instant financial cover or assistance for indigent patients who are unable to provide immediate funds to undergo treatment and preliminary hospitalisation prior to regular family assistance.

“HEI’s `None Should Die’ campaign is a unique programme that benefits both the rich and poor.

“It ensures that accident victims are resuscitated and stabilised immediately they get to the hospitals.

“This is anchored on the assurance that HEI would foot the bill to the maximum sum of N20, 000,” Onuekwusi said.

He thanked PwC for responding to the painful cries of the poor and needy in the society.

Onuekwusi also urged other corporate organisations to emulate PwC for its kind gesture to the society.

Also, Mr Uyi Akpata, PwC Regional Senior Partner, West Market Area, in an interview with NAN, urged the NGOs to use the funds judiciously.

“Our support is in recognition of what you have been doing; we know that in future the benefit will come, not from financial rewards, but from the positive impact on the society.

“PwC organised the five-kilometre walk for the five charity organisations and now we are supporting them with N5 million.

“The theme of the programme is: “Five-Kilometre Walk, Carnival and Charity” organised for five charities,” Akpata said.

According to him, PwC’s support to the charities is in line with its purpose which is to build trust in society and solve important problems.

NAN also reports that the FRSC has commended HEI for giving prompt support and assistance to save the lives of over 200 accident victims in the last two years.

Mr Hyginus Omeje, the Lagos State Sector Commander of FRSC, gave the commendation on Dec. 9 during the “ Five-kilometre Walk, Carnival and Charity programme’’ organised and sponsored by PwC. (NAN)
