FCT Ministerial Task Force raids drug hideouts, arrests suspects

Abuja, Jan.18, 2018(NAN) The Federal Capital Territory Ministerial Task Force on Thursday said it raided a drug hideout called Tura Bora and made some arrests.

 

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tura Bora is a Hill not too far away from APO roundabout and SARS office in Abuja.

 

Leader of the task force, and FCT Commissioner of Police, Sadiq Bello, said that the Task force in conjunction with Wuse Police Division raided a drug spot in Wuse Zone 3.

 

Bello said that some drug traffickers escaped but drugs such as Indian hemp, Codeine and Tramadol of various quantities were recovered, while arrested suspects were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

 

According to him, the Police arrested 46 offenders for alleged illicit drugs, and handed them over to NDLEA for prosecution.

 

Bello recalled that the Task force had received written complaints from the Landlord Association at Tamal Close, Wuse Zone 3 and Zone 5 on the increasing activities of commercial sex workers in the area.

 

He said that the two locations were raided and suspects arrested were handed over to Social Development Secretariat for further action.

 

“Similarly, the management of Eden Garden in Utako complained about the activities of commercial sex workers around their vicinity.

 

“The Task force also carried out raids there and arrests were made, they were also handed over to Social Development Secretariat for further action,” he said.

 

The Task force also raided other locations/residences used for commercial sex activities in OTT Hotel, Imperial Hotel, Airwaves Hotel, House 797 all in Wuse 2 and Criss Garden at Daki Biu.

 

He said 739 commercial sex workers were arrested and handed over to the FCT Social Development Secretariat for counseling and possible rehabilitation.

 

The Police commissioner  also added that 23 shanties used for commercial sex purposes in Apo mechanic village and Chika village were demolished.

 

NAN reports that shanties used for illegal mechanic workshops were also demolished at Gudu market, Kubwa, Bwari and Nyanya. (NAN)
