Ilorin, Jan.18, 2018 (NAN) An Ilorin based legal practitioner, Mr Jimoh Babatunde says youth empowerment remains the only panacea to ensure security in the country.

He therefore urged government at all levels to create enabling environment for the youths to make them self-reliant.

Babatunde made this known on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.

“The provision of jobs and empowerment of youths is the only panacea needed to tackle the country’s growing security challenges.

“The high rate of insecurity, youth restiveness, and insurgence are attributable to unemployment and neglect of youth by government and this is generating a lot of tension.

“Youths constitute 70 per cent of the country’s population,  therefore they deserve to be catered for by long term strategic planning for the survival of our nation,” he added.

The lawyer also advised youths not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs and desist from other vices.

He called on religious institutions to preach sermons that would revitalise moral ethics among the youths.  (NAN)
