Enugu, Jan. 18, 2018 (NAN) Mr Lawrence Nnamani, the Principal Library Officer, Enugu State Library Board, has appealed to the state government for the establishment of electronic library (e-library) in Enugu State.

Nnamani made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday.

He said the establishment of e-library would go a long way to attract many library users and generate more funds for the state.

The librarian lamented that most of the library services had been taken over by many business centres in Enugu metropolis.

He called on the government to help in reviving the library to a standard electronic library, which would help to increase in the internally generating revenue of the state.

“In fact, many researchers will use the library for their electronic research activities with the availability of internet.

“If only the state government can urgently re-structure its state library to e-library, people will be surprised over the increase of the library revenue that will be generated with  technology.

“This is because we all know how much readers and researchers spend just to acquire knowledge and get informed about their studies and other things happening round the world,’’ he said.

Nnamani said Enugu State Library was the first public library in the Eastern Nigeria which began operation in 1959 and therefore should be among the first to embrace e-library in the region.

NAN reports that the deployment of the e-library will provide 24 hours online access of information of any kind in format such as video, audio, picture, text or combined (hybrid) format. (NAN)
